Teeth Grinding

Do you or your child grind your teeth at night?

There are many potential causes to teeth grinding including stress, unresolved emotions, jaw and dental concerns and mineral deficiency. Minerals including calcium and magnesium. It is estimated that about 80% of population does not get enough magnesium in the diet. Low magnesium in addition to grinding teeth can contribute to restless sleep, constipation and muscle cramping.

There are many mineral products on the market. Some are great and some not so great.

When purchasing a mineral here are some tips to look for:

1. Avoid products with carbonate or oxide forms of minerals. These are not very well absorbed and are not recommended.

2. Capsules or tablets- both are actually fine

3. Avoid any mineral products that use artificial dyes (anything that says FD&C and then a number)

4. Watch out for gummies- these tend to be high in sugar....minerals do not taste the best so it takes a bit of sugar to hide the taste.

5. Favor citrate/glycinate/malate forms of minerals

6. Minerals taken at night can help with sleep quality and initiating sleep
