Why Are Labs Important?
There are many underlying causes and contributions to mental health concerns like anxiety and depression.
Some of these are:
Nutrient deficiencies: vitamin D, magnesium, B12, omega 3 fatty acids, carnitine, zinc, and more.
Thyroid disorders
Heavy metal toxicity
Chronic infections
GI infections and dysbiosis
Hormone imbalance
Lab testing is important to create a targeted treatment plan. Medications can be helpful and even life saving, but they don’t correct these deficiencies. The goal is to identify and remove obstacles to cure while supporting healthy body functioning.
Did you know that currently there are no good lab tests that mental health professionals can use to know what medications may work for you? Decisions are made based on questions asked in the office and based on your intake forms. Occasionally, there may be a questionnaire to fill out that may help narrow your diagnosis, however it doesn’t tell us anything about what your brain patterns would look like and how you might respond to treatment.
This is why a qEEG is so important to see if your symptoms are not related to your brain patterns, or rather lifestyle issues which require a totally different type of treatment.
